1 Chronicle 17:17-27
There is no one like you, O Lord, and there is no God but you, as we have heard with our own ears.
Do as you promised, so that it will be established and that your name will be great forever.
Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, O Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.
Why?
When Jerusalem was taken and the people went into exile in Babylon all seemed lost; despite the promise, David's line of kings ended. The Chronicler wants to revive that hope and trust in God. For the New Testament writers, the promise was fulfilled in Jesus who came from the family of David and will reign for ever.
The Lord blessed David and his family, so as God blesses us through Jesus.
There is no one like you, O Lord, you are the living God and mighty God.
How?
O Lord, may I be continue forever in your sight!
