What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”Now to the one who works, wages are not credited as a gift but as an obligation.
However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.
Paul picks up on his statement in 3:21-22 that this same faith-principle is inherent in the Old Testament scripture. If he can prove his point in the case of Abraham -father of the Jewish nation, and the prime example of an upright person - surely the Jewish objectors will be convinced. And he can, God accepted Abraham not because of his good life, but because of his faith.
Why?
Gifts are one who does not work but received, so God gives us Jesus Christ as our gift to free us from dead and could be righteousness.
How?
Jesus Christ is a gift from God to us and it is good to us, if you do not receive it, you won't get it.
