Daniel 11:20-45
North king's successor will send out a tax collector to maintain the royal splendor. In a few years, however, he will be destroyed yet not in anger or in battle. but a contemptible person who has not been given the honor of royalty.
His heart will be set against the holy covenant. He will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.
Those who are wise will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by the sword or be burned or captured or plundered. When they fall, they will receive a little help. Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.
The king who exalts himself above all, he will do as he pleases, He will say unheard of things against the God of gods.
Yet he will come to his end, and no one will help him.
Why?
The 'exactor of tribute' was his son Seleucus IV, who was shortly succeeded by his brother Antiochus IV, the persecutor of the Jews.
Antiochus briefly gained control of Egypt in 173. On his return he attacked Jerusalem and slaughtered 80,000 Jews.(v25-28)
He turned on Jerusalem again and desecrated the Temple(v31)
He was aided and abetted(挑唆) by some Jews, but others refused to compromise their faith, though they died for it(v32-33).
Judas Maccabaeus instigated(煽動) a successful revolt,(起義) so helping the faithful.(v34)
The end of Antiochus' life my refer to the end of Syrian domination, at the hands of Rome, the new king from the north. Or they may anticipate events at the end of time.
There were people who know the God will firmly resist the evil one.
How?
All the evil doers will be ended at the appointed time. To be a Christian was refined his life wait for the coming day of the End.
All of the disasters and the boast kings are only for a time. The one who firmly in the faith of Jesus may gets the glory of Heaven.
How?
Calm down my heart in these mess generation, and firmly resist all of this evil things, believe in the Lord.
